President Milanović Calls for Quickest Possible Reconstruction of Sisak Hospital
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović toured the earthquake-stricken areas of Sisak-Moslavina County. First he arrived by train in Sisak, and went to the Zlatna Igla-Siscia Company Ltd, whose production has resumed, continued on to the container housing project in Ivan Fistrović Street where he talked to the residents who have been housed there since the earthquake, and then to “Dr. Ivo Pedišić” General Hospital, which sustained considerable damage in the earthquake.
After touring the hospital site in Sisak, President Milanović made a statement to the representatives of the media: “I can repeat what you already know and what has already been said and seen. The hospital sustained extensive damage and one should be cautious when dealing with the reconstruction and demolition of such buildings”, the President said, and added that conservators should be consulted, but that the decision will nevertheless be made by politics, by those who are responsible for that. “Some buildings will most likely have to be demolished, and the sooner the better, so that the hospital can resume its normal operation, treating as many people from this area as possible, so that they do not unnecessarily go to Zagreb”, he said.
Talking about his impressions after meeting with residents who have been housed in container homes in Ivan Fistrović Street, President Milanović said: “That is one of seven locations in Sisak where container homes have been installed. Even at first I said that it’s easy to tell someone in distress to be patient. The container homes have now been put to use and are operational. However, we have learned something – there is a variety of container homes, some don’t include washroom facilities, some have them, and are obviously more expensive, therefore a lesson should be drawn as to what should be purchased in the future and kept in the commodity reserves”, the President noted.
