President Milanović Harshly Condemns Russian Aggression against Ukraine, Holds Emergency Meeting with Chiefs of Croatian Armed Forces and Intelligence Agencies

The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović harshly condemns the Russian aggression against Ukraine and considers the attacks of the Russian military forces an unacceptable violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty. President Milanović calls on Russia to cease military attacks against Ukraine and hopes that the situation will deescalate quickly and that diplomatic activities aimed at finding a peaceful solution will continue. President Milanović expresses regret for the human casualties in Ukraine. Being a member of the NATO alliance and the European Union, the Republic of Croatia will act in this situation in compliance with its commitments.

Due to the military conflict in Ukraine, President Milanović convened an emergency meeting this morning with the chiefs of the Croatian Armed Forces and Croatian intelligence agencies. Attending the meeting at the Office of the President were the Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces Admiral Robert Hranj, Director of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces Major General Ivica Olujić, Commander of the Operations Command of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces Brigadier General Ivan Turkalj, Director of the Security and Intelligence Agency Daniel Markić and Director of the Military Security and Intelligence Agency Ivica Kinder.

The military commanders and chiefs of the intelligence agencies informed President Milanović about the current developments and possible scenarios in Ukraine. Attending the meeting alongside President Milanović were the Head of the Office of the President Orsat Miljenić, Adviser to the President of the Republic for Defence and National Security Dragan Lozančić and Adviser to the President of the Republic for Foreign and European Policy Neven Pelicarić.

President Milanović also spoke this morning with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia Andrej Plenković, with whom he is in continuous contact over the situation in Ukraine.
