President Milanović Joins Initiative for more Climate Ambition
Following the trilateral meeting between the President of the Republic of Austria and the President of the Republic of Slovenia, the President of the Republic Zoran Milanović held a bilateral meeting with Austrian President Van der Bellen during which he joined the Initiative for more Climate Ambition.
“The coronavirus has come and will go, but the problems that the Earth faces due to climate change, which Croatia can have as a country that relies on tourism, are of such magnitude that we must not stop thinking about them for a single moment. Today, I have joined the Initiative for more Climate Ambition dealing with the environment and the green policy, which is a symbolic level, but in my country, in Croatia, I will be more committed and more vocal than I have been so far”, President Milanović noted.
Referring to the green policy and the environment, President Milanović underlined Austria as being the right place and the right part of Europe when speaking on this topic. “When Austria, Finland and Sweden became members of the European Union, I became aware that Austria in negotiations for joining the European Union as early as in 1994 had higher environmental standards than a strict European Union had”, the President stated. “We cannot be ambitious enough when speaking about green policy and renewable energy sources”, he underlined.
