President Milanović Meets Leadership of the Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology Celebrating 70 Years of Work
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović today received the leadership of the Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology of the University of Zagreb. For 70 years, it has been one of the key Croatian institutions for the development of science, education, and expertise in the field of food technology, biotechnology, and nutrition.
The leadership of the Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology, led by the Dean Verica Dragović-Uzelac, introduced President Milanović to Faculty’s beginnings, which is now focused on connecting research, education and the needs of the economy. Through its activities, the Faculty has made a major contribution to the development of the food industry and biotechnology in Croatia and the region. Founded in 1956, the Faculty is among the pioneers of this kind of education in Europe, and has grown into a modern scientific and educational institution which actively contributes to the development of the food industry, biotechnology and nutritional science; it was said at the meeting.
Nowadays, the Faculty offers modern undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate studies aligned with European educational standards, with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinarity and research. Regarding the composition of employees and students, women make up 70 per cent of academic staff and students. Such a composition has been gradually reflected to the leading positions within the Faculty, as well. While men more often held management and academic positions in the earlier periods of the Faculty’s history, there has been a significant increase in the number of women in key positions in the Faculty’s management and scientific work over the last ten years; it was emphasized by the representatives of the Faculty.
Apart from the Dean of the Faculty, the Vice Dean for students’ affairs Prof. Mirela Ivančić Šantek, Vice Dean for organisation and operations Prof. Sandra Balbino, Vice Dean for science and international cooperation Prof. Ivana Radojčić Redovniković, as well as Vice Dean for development and quality management Prof. Irena Barukčić Jurina attended the meeting at the Office of the President of the Republic.
