President Milanović Meets with Association of Teachers in Family Medicine Delegation
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović met today at the Office of the President with a delegation of the Association of Teachers in General Practice / Family Medicine (DNOOM), which has since 1998 been working to improve education in the field of general practice / family medicine.
The delegation, headed by Association President Dr. Biserka Bergman Marković, informed President Milanović about the problems that family medicine practitioners have been facing for years, with specialization being highlighted as one of the major issues. Namely, specialization must be a part of family medicine because it is a prerequisite for achieving quality work on the part of family medicine practitioners, and all practitioners should have an equal opportunity to take part in specialization programmes regardless of which part of Croatia they come from, it was said at the meeting.
The delegation also warned that family medicine practitioners are burdened by non-medical tasks, which has adverse effects on the quality of their work, and young physicians from the field shared their everyday practice experiences in this regard. Association representatives expressed discontent with the fact that the competent ministry does not valorise their work and acknowledge their arguments, which have at the same time been accepted by international organizations with which the Association has been cooperating for years.
The Association brings together teachers and associates of medical and related faculties in Croatia who have demonstrated an active interest in the problems facing general practice education. Today, the Association actively employs about 70 teachers from all four departments of family medicine at the universities of Zagreb, Rijeka, Osijek and Split. It was pointed out that the Association especially focuses on working with young educators.
The President of the Republic has accepted the patronage of the 12th International Congress of the Association of Teachers in General Practice / Family Medicine entitled “Syndemic – A New Challenge for Family Medicine,” which will be held from 20 to 24 April 2022 in Zagreb.
Apart from the Association of Teachers in General Practice / Family Medicine (DNOOM) President Dr. Biserka Bergman Marković, the following persons attended the meeting with President Milanović: Association Vice President Dr. Milica Katić; Congress Executive Director, member of the Association’s Executive Board and Congress Scientific Committee Dr. Jasna Vučak; members of the Association’s Executive Board and Congress Scientific Committee Dr. Ines Diminić Lisica, Dr. Valerija Bralić Lang and Dr. Sanda Pribić; young educators in the field of family medicine Dr. Juraj Jug and Dr. Diana Sabljak Malkoč.
