The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received in his Office Petrinja resident Branko Šubić who is coordinating the project entitled “Branko Šubić for Defenders: Dubrovnik-Knin-Petrinja 2021,” an ultramarathon stage race that will be held for the third time in three years on the occasion of Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day, Croatian Defenders Day, Petrinja Liberation Day and Croatian Defenders of Petrinja Day.

Mr. Šubić informed President Milanović about efforts that are underway in preparation for this year’s stage of the ultramarathon, in which he plans to pass through five counties and eleven cities in Croatia in eleven days through a combination of race walking and running. He underscored that the objective of his initiative was to visit the monuments to the fallen and missing Croatian defenders, to pay tribute to them and to pay homage to the war victims.

The first marathon was organized in 2017 and the second one followed in 2019. Mr. Šubić plans to kick off this year’s ultramarathon on 27 July in Dubrovnik and to complete it in Petrinja on Petrinja Liberation Day and Croatian Defenders of Petrinja Day. Mr. Šubić thanked President Milanović at the meeting for agreeing to become patron of this year’s “Branko Šubić for Defenders: Dubrovnik-Knin-Petrinja 2021” project.

Attending the meeting alongside President Milanović was the President’s Special Adviser for Homeland War Veterans Marijan Mareković.
