In the Office of the President, the President of the Republic Zoran Milanović met today with the Croatian members of the European Law Students’ Association – ELSA, the world’s largest non-profit, non-political association of law students and young lawyers.

The ELSA delegation acquainted President Milanović with their activities, which include the organization of seminars and conferences, moot court competitions, academic workshops and student trainee exchange programmes. One of them was the recently held two-day conference entitled “Postignuća, izazovi i perspektiva Republike Hrvatske” (Achiements, Challenges and Prospects of the Republic of Croatia), organized on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Croatian independence.

They discussed the international activities and cooperation between the Croatian association and branch offices in other European countries, since ELSA has branches in 44 European countries with more than 50,000 members at 300 universities. In this connection, they talked about opportunities for students internships, international students’ competitions and ways to motivate students for additional activities during their studies.

Besides enabling law students and young lawyers to learn about other cultures and legal systems in the spirit of critical dialogue and scientific cooperation, the Association helps them to be equipped for professional life in an international environment, acquire professional skills and encourages them to work for the good of society.

Attending the meeting with President Milanović were ELSA Croatia president Alen Šukurica, ELSA Croatia secretary general Ivan Luis Glavich Mandarić, ELSA Croatia vice-president for marketing Dag Kirin, ELSA Croatia vice-president for seminars and conferences Dora Štambuk, vice-president for STEP (Student Trainee Exchange Programme) Nika Smiljanić, member (ELSA Croatia president 2019-2020) Ante Škrobica, and member of ELSA Croatia the Supervisory Board Lucija Topolovec.
