The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received a delegation of the Association of the 1st Home Guard Battalion “Pula” on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of its founding. The delegation included Association president Boris Ružić, secretary Đildo Pliško and founder Denis Kontošić.

They discussed the service and deployment of the 1st Home Guard Battalion “Pula”, founded on 30 April 1992. It is significant due to the fact that it was the first Home Guard unit from Istria County that operated on the battlefield of Lika. The unit completed all its tasks without any losses and was a model of organization and conduct for all other units on the battlefield. The Association members noted that their Battalion comprised 4 companies, 609 members, and when it ceased to exist on 13 July 1999 due to restructuring more than 1,500 Istrian Home Guards had passed through its ranks.

The representatives of the 1st Home Guard Battalion “Pula” acquainted President Milanović with outstanding issues of the Battalion members as well as with the programme for the celebration of the founding of the Battalion, which includes the promotion of a monograph featuring the unit.

Alongside President Milanović at the meeting was the Special Adviser to the President of the Republic for Homeland War Veterans Marijan Mareković.
