President Milanović Meets with Leadership of Agency for Science and Higher Education
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović met today with the leadership of the Agency for Science and Higher Education. The occasion was the Agency’s 20 years of activity; it is in charge of quality assurance in higher education and science.
Director Danijela Horvatek Tomić acquainted President Milanović with all aspects of the activities of the Agency for Science and Higher Education, which was established according to the practices of European Union countries and operates as a public institution, independent in its scope of work. The Agency provides official recommendations for issuing licenses to higher education institutions for performing activities, as well as for implementing individual study programmes, conducts accreditation and reaccreditation procedures, external evaluation of institutions and study programmes, and assesses whether faculties and higher education institutions meet quality criteria.
Furthermore, it was said at the meeting that it participates in the evaluation of scientific organizations, assists in establishing standards, keeps records of education and research, and participates in advisory bodies that connect education, science, and the labour market and enables the recognition of higher school qualifications acquired abroad. The state of Croatian higher education was further discussed at the meeting.
In addition to the Director of the Agency for Higher Education, Danijela Horvatek Tomić, the meeting in the Office of the President of the Republic was attended by Deputy Director, Irena Petrušić, and Assistant Directors, Mia Đikić and Marina Grubišić.
Alongside President Milanović was the Adviser to the President for Education, Jadranka Žarković.
