President Milanović Meets with Members of the Coordination Committee of County Youth Councils
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović met with the members of the Coordination Committee of County Youth Councils of the Republic of Croatia, which includes 19 County Youth Councils and the Youth Council of the City of Zagreb, with the support of the Croatian Community of Counties.
The Coordination Committee was designed as a platform for exchanging experience and continuously informing the County Youth Councils, analyzing the current problems of the youth, and stimulating their interest for government institutions and bodies. The representatives of the Coordination Committee underlined their role in increasing the youth’s involvement in creating and implementing local policies.
The Coordination Committee acquainted President Milanović with the recommendations they drafted and whose objective is to assist young people in entrepreneurship, tourism and agriculture. As they noted, individual counties are already implementing these recommendations. Since their activities are exclusively funded by County budgets, they indicated that a problem lies in the gap between the financial capabilities of the counties.
Furthermore, they discussed the Coordination Committee’s activities in 2020, which, on account of the new coronavirus situation and other circumstances, were aimed at empowering their representatives on social media. In this way they presented their work and via online conferences adopted the recommendations for introducing extraordinary policies to assist the youth in the crisis situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The delegation of the Coordination Committee of County Youth Councils of the Republic of Croatia included: the Coordination Committee’s secretary-general and president of the Slavonski Brod-Posavina County Youth Council Josip Jagodar, the Coordination Committee’s international secretary and vice-president of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Youth Council Kristian Tončić, Coordination Committee’s secretary for cooperation with the Croatian Community of Counties, and president of the Koprivnica-Križevci County Youth Council Željko Jurković, president of the Varaždin County Youth Council Lovro Lukavečki and president of the Požega-Slavonia County Dario Ivković.
