President Milanović Meets with Miko Tripalo Centre for Democracy and Law Delegation

The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received in his Office a delegation of the Miko Tripalo Centre for Democracy and Law, a non-profit and non-partisan NGO whose goal is to encourage dialogue and also recommend and instigate changes that are important for Croatian society.

Representatives of the Miko Tripalo Centre informed President Milanović of their activities and the topics they have been covering over the last few years, notably the condition of the judiciary, the socio-demographic developments in Croatia, European values among young people, labour legislation and workers’ rights. In reference to the condition of the judiciary, the delegation warned that the Croatian judiciary remains very closed to the public, it is not transparent and is marked by extremely low levels of public trust among all institutions. Because the Miko Tripalo Centre seeks to position itself as a think tank that will offer solutions through dialogue, its members presented to President Milanović research results and recommendations they have drawn up with the aim of improving the country’s judiciary.

In the discussion on European values among young people, the delegation highlighted the need to raise young people’s awareness of EU issues and thus improve their understanding of the benefits of being in the EU, and of the ways in which they could become more actively involved in decision-making processes that impact their lives. Furthermore, the delegation warned of the emergence of new social risks that would require changes to be made to the demographic and social paradigm.

Participating in the meeting with President Milanović were President of the Miko Tripalo Centre Management Board Tvrtko Jakovina, member of the Management Board Goran Sunajko, President of the Miko Tripalo Centre Assembly Viktor Gotovac, Executive Director and member of the Miko Tripalo Centre Vanja Mladineo, Secretary of the Miko Tripalo Centre Hrvoje Nemet and members Vinka Tomić Tripalo, Alan Uzelac and Vlado Puljiz.

Adviser to the President of the Republic for Human Rights and Civil Society Melita Mulić attended the meeting alongside President Milanović.
