President Milanović Meets with Representatives of Croats in Montenegro

The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović met in the Office of the President today with the president of the Croatian National Council of Montenegro Zvonimir Deković and the president of the Croatian Civil Initiative Adrijan Vuksanović.

The president of the Croatian National Council of Montenegro and the president of the Croatian Civil Initiative acquainted President Milanović with current events in Montenegro underlining the challenges Croats are facing in that country in view of the fact that they do not have a representative in the Montenegrin Assembly since the last parliamentary election held there. The representatives of the Croats in Montenegro also informed President Milanović about the unresolved property-legal issues of the Croatian hall in Donja Lastva, a longstanding pending issue.

President Milanović has understanding for the problems of the Croats in Montenegro, underlining that the Republic of Croatia attaches great importance to the status of Croats in that country, adding that he will further be committed to the promotion and preservation of their rights. The meeting also dealt with the importance of further developing friendly relations between the two neighbouring and allied countries in which the Croatian minority in Montenegro plays a major role.

Alongside President Milanović at the meeting was the President’s Adviser for Foreign and European Policy Neven Pelicarić.
