President Milanović, Patron of Osor Musical Evenings Festival, Receives its Delegation
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović met in his Office with the President of the Osor Musical Evenings festival Josip Nalis, the Director of the Public Open University Mali Lošinj Martina Lipovac and Osor Musical Evenings Steering Committee member Berislav Šipuš, ahead of the opening of this year’s festival.
The delegation members thanked President Milanović for his patronage of the Osor Musical Evenings and acquainted him with the programme of this year’s festival, which is set to open on the 20th of July with a performance by the Croatian Radio and Television Choir performing Papandopulo’s Croatian Mass in D minor. The Osor Musical Evenings delegation members added that a total of 14 concerts will be held this year.
Founded in the mid-1970s, the Osor Musical Evenings festival still continues to uphold the basic premise in its fifth continuous decade – the encouragement of musical creation in Croatia. The delegation members pointed out that the festival in Osor has enjoyed the status of a national festival since 2011 and that the Osor Renaissance Cathedral, the main festival arena, has hosted almost 800 concerts to date, where the world premieres of more than 300 festival pieces by composers of all ages were performed.
Describing its programmes, the Osor Musical Evenings delegation members said that in addition to the canonical works of classical music of all periods, the festival programmes feature works of key figures of Croatian contemporary music, primarily those by Boris Papandopulo, Stjepan Šulek, Ivan Brkanović, Miroslav Miletić, Igor Kuljerić, Stanko Horvat and others.
Special Adviser to the President of the Republic for Culture Zdravko Zima attended the meeting alongside President Milanović.
