President Milanović Receives Authors of “Fiume o morte!“ Film, Winner of the European Film Award for Best Documentary
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received today the authors of the awarded documentary feature film “Fiume o morte!“, film director and screenwriter, Igor Bezinović, and film producer, Tibor Keser.
The film “Fiume o morte!“ won the award for best European documentary at the recent European Film Awards ceremony in Berlin. President Milanović congratulated the film’s authors for this award and for multiple other film awards.
The film had its world premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam where it also received two awards – the main Tiger Award and the critics’ FIPRESCI Award making it the first Croatian film to have received an award in the prestigious competitive category of this festival.
By combining documentary and feature scenes, in which the citizens of Rijeka participate, the film shows the general public a little-known part of the history of the city of Rijeka from the beginning of the 20th century. It is about the 16-month occupation of the city in 1919, carried out by Italian poet, and in fact, preacher of war, Gabriele D’Annunzi.
The film “Fiume o morte!” is also a representative of Croatian cinematography in the competition for the 98th Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences “Oscar”, making it the first documentary selected as the Croatian representative in the race for the “Oscars”.
Attending the meeting alongside President Milanović was the Special Adviser to the President for Culture, Zdravko Zima.
