On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the beginning of the occupation of Hrvatska Kostajnica, the President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received today in the Office of the President a delegation of Croatian defenders who were among the first detainees of the Manjača concentration camp.

Following the collapse of defence lines around Hrvatska Kostajnica on the 13th of September 1991, captured Croatian defenders were taken to the Manjača camp. The men were among the first Croatian detainees of Serb concentration camps to be taken into captivity outside the territory of the Republic of Croatia. The defenders of Hrvatska Kostajnica, who were members of the Croatian National Guard at the time, informed President Milanović of the events that occurred during the town’s occupation, as well as of the hardship they experienced during their detention in Manjača, where they spent 58 days before being exchanged.

Participating in the meeting with President Milanović were Croatian defenders and former Manjača camp detainees Vlastimir Rac, Željko Barun, Dean Kosović, Marijan Sinanović and Nenad Marković. Special Adviser to the President of the Republic for Homeland War Veterans Marijan Mareković was at the meeting alongside President Milanović.
