President Milanović Receives Delegation of Association of Homeland War Defenders and Veterans of the Military Police
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received today a delegation of the Association of Homeland War Defenders and Veterans of the Military Police that brings together former and current employees of the Military Police and their sympathizers. The Association operates on a national level with its headquarters in Zagreb; it has around 700 members.
The Military Police was founded on 24 August 1991. At the meeting, Association representatives led by Association president Jakov Stanušić acquainted President Milanović with the circumstances in which the Military Police was founded 35 years ago as well as the organizational structure under which it operated. Since the beginning of military police operations, the members carried out not only regular military police tasks, but also participated in all combat operations. In operations Flash and Storm their key tasks were to prepare, carry out and secure the liberation of areas, it was highlighted at the meeting. During the Homeland War 120 members of the Military Police were killed and seven are missing in action.
Members of the Association indicated that their goal is to care for their members and preserve the historical identity of the Homeland War Military Police and also to transfer the acquired know-how and experience to new generations of military police and youth. In this context, they pointed out the educational activities they offer in schools all across Croatia.
Attending the meeting in the Office of the President of the Republic apart from Association president Jakov Stanušić were: vice-president of the Association of Homeland War Defenders and Veterans of the Military Police, Vlado Kovačević; secretary general, Željko Barbir; president of the Supervisory Board, Mladen Kranjčec; president of the Court of Honour, Josip Đukić; president of the Zagreb branch, Gordan Previšić; president of the Dubrovnik branch, Srećko Musić; president of the Rijeka branch, Nenad Dmejhal; secretary general of the Rijeka branch, Ljilja Kovačević Marušić, members of the Zagreb branch, Dragan Hodak and Ivana Kovačević Bekić; member of the Dubrovnik branch, Mario Japunčić; and member of the Rijeka branch, Siniša Strčić.
Alongside President Milanović was the Adviser to the President for Homeland War Veterans Marijan Mareković.
