President Milanović Receives Delegation of European Specialist Nurses Organisation
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received today a delegation of the European Specialist Nurses Organisation (ESNO) on the occasion of International Nurses Day, which is observed on 12 May. They informed him of preparations for the 7th International Congress entitled “Green Future, Health Workplace – Specialist Nurses Leading the Way“, which ESNO is organizing from 29 to 31 May in Zagreb.
The Congress is co-organized with the Croatian National Nursing Association and the Croatian Society of Anaesthesia, Resuscitation, Intensive Care and Transfusion Nurses, and in cooperation with many faculties and nursing associations in the Republic of Croatia, under the auspices of the President of the Republic. The European Specialist Nurses Organization is an organization that brings together federations of specialist nurses operating in Europe. According to the Organisation’s President, Adrian Friganović, the Congress is expected to attract around 200 participants from almost 30 European states.
At the meeting with President Milanović, in addition to the Congress, they also discussed the position of the medical profession in Croatia and Europe. It was emphasised that Croatia is still experiencing a problem of nursing shortage in health institutions; they are no longer going abroad as much as they used to, but are rather leaving the health system for other jobs. The main reasons for nurses leaving the health system were cited as insufficient salaries and non-recognition of their educational level.
Attending the meeting in the Office of the President of the Republic apart from the president of the European Specialist Nurses Organisation were the executive director of the European Specialist Nurses Organisation Ber Oomen; the chair of the Scientific Committee Vedrana Vejzović; as well as Snježana Čukljek, Sandra Bošković, Ana Brčina, Cecilija Rotim, Marin Repustić, Ana Joka, Vesna Konjevoda, Ružica Marinić, Josip Brusić, Gordana Miškulin, Marica Jerleković, Danijela Rac, Gloria Bešker, Romana Palić and medical technician, Boris Ilić.
Alongside President Milanović was the Adviser to the President for Education Jadranka Žarković.
