President Milanović Receives Society of Šibenik and Friends of Šibenik in Zagreb Delegation

The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received in the Office of the President a delegation of the Society of Šibenik and Friends of Šibenik in Zagreb accompanied by City of Šibenik representatives.

The Society of Šibenik and Friends of Šibenik in Zagreb was organized by students from Šibenik in Zagreb as early as 1965, it was formally established as an association in 1976 and has been active ever since. They are considered to be one of the oldest societies of such kind in Croatia. The purpose of the Society was to make contacts and organize various activities not just for the citizens of Šibenik in Zagreb, but for their friends as well, and to present their local community. It was a period when the Society included several thousand members, and today the best students from Šibenik in Zagreb are involved in its work today.

They further explained that the Society plans to open branch offices, and the most active among them is the Students’ Club of Šibenik Citizens. This Club organizes events such as panels, art exhibitions, musical and film soirees, concerts, quizzes and a Mini-football league. One of the Society’s most recognizable projects is the traditional Šibenik evening. They underlined that the Society of Šibenik and Friends of Šibenik in Zagreb does not engage in politics. They also discussed Šibenik’s development in the past thirty years.

The delegation of the Society of Šibenik and Friends of Šibenik in Zagreb comprised its president Miljenko Bura, vice-president Josip Ninić and members of the Board of Directors Goran Petković, Zdenko Krajina, Kristijana Kelava, Željko Rupić and Lovro Štrbinić. Representing the City of Šibenik at the meeting with President Milanović were the head of the Administrative Department for City Property Management and the envoy of the mayor of Šibenik Tihomir Paškov, and the head of the Office of the mayor of Šibenik Mladena Baran Jakelić.

Alongside President Milanović was the Adviser to the President for Human Rights and Civil Society Melita Mulić.
