President Milanović Supports Hospitality Education Teachers’ Association Facilitating Education of Persons with Disabilities

The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović met with a delegation of the Association of Hospitality Education Teachers, an alliance that facilitates the education of children without proper parental care, people with disabilities and members of other disadvantaged groups, with a view to creating equal opportunities in the community and the labour market.

Representatives of the Association of Hospitality Education Teachers acquainted President Milanović with the Association’s national project entitled “A Society of Equality – Creating Equal Opportunity Societies – FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.” The Association plans to organize a trip for the top contestants of a culinary competition to the World Cup in Qatar, for which the hosts have also shown interest. The project would promote Croatia as a country of social awareness, while encouraging education that is accessible to all – regardless of a disability or a disadvantaged position in society.

Representatives of the Association presented the group’s educational activities, such as permanent cooking and other workshops, as well as efforts to raise public awareness of the obstacles that people with disabilities face, in order to increase the quality of their work and to facilitate their inclusion in the community. Another goal of the Association is to educate potential employers about the right way to approach people with disabilities in view of their employment and to do so in an unbiased way.

President Milanović extended his support to the Association and its current initiative, while pointing out that this is a unique development in Croatia.

Apart from the Association’s President and Founder Vedran Habel, its Vice President Silvija Habel, retired U.S. marketing and communications professor and Association volunteer Charles Pinzon, Association member Ana Orkić and children Deni Radovan and Ameli Kruljac, who are beneficiaries, also participated in the meeting with the President of the Republic.

Alongside President Milanović were Adviser to the President of the Republic for Education Jadranka Žarković and Adviser to the President of the Republic for Foreign and European Policy Neven Pelicarić.
