On International Day of Persons with Disabilities the President of the Republic Zoran Milanović attended a ceremony marking the 60th anniversary of work of the SUVAG Polyclinic for the Rehabilitation of Listening and Speech held under his auspices.

In his address at the anniversary celebration of the health institution that deals with the specialist-consultative health care of persons experiencing speech-language problems, President Milanović noted that his experience with the SUVAG Polyclinic was brief and thorough. “You are aware that you are dealing with a world-class institution”, he said, and explained that he took his son to the Polyclinic because of his speech impairment. “Since we lived abroad long enough to see the advantages and disadvantages of healthcare institutions in the richest European states, we frequently underestimate ourselves, but organizations and institutions such as SUVAG are few and far between”, he added.

“SUVAG is indeed a result of the genius and engagement of one man”, President Milanović stated, adding that throughout history individuals created great things”. The Polyclinic would not exist if it were not for academician Guberina. “This is an invention, and there are few inventions that distinguish us. When we talk about healthcare, medicine and human health In Zagreb, there is also Andrija Štampar, inventor of the antibiotic Sumamed. Great people are necessary for great things, plus the many little people who maintain and develop them, and do not allow valuable things to be destroyed, but upgrade them continuously. Without such people, meaning you, this institution would be just another story”, President Milanović said.

He concluded by saying that the SUVAG Polyclinic is a success story created with a lot of enthusiasm, love and focus. “Concentration on work, affinity and love for this work evidently exist here, therefore I commend you once again for this”.

Also speaking at the ceremony besides President Milanović were the Director of the SUVAG Polyclinic Katarina Pavičić Dokoza, President of the Zagreb City Assembly Joško Klisović, the State Secretary in the Ministry of Science and Education Tomislav Paljak, the State Secretary in the Ministry of Health Željko Plazonić, and the Mayor of Zagreb Tomislav Tomašević.
