President Milanović Takes Part in Koprivnica Municipal Day
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović took part in a formal session of Koprivnica City Council on the occasion of Municipal Day. In his address he noted that Koprivnica enjoys the comfort and beauty of life that is felt by the people who come to visit.
“A neat, organized and peaceful city, with no ill feeling”, the President said, and added that this is how he feels and why he is always glad to come to Koprivnica, especially by train. He thinks that the trip takes too long by train, but that Koprivnica is one of those cities where it makes sense to travel by train. “You won’t travel any longer than by car, and it should take fifty minutes. We haven’t managed that yet, but Koprivnica is the edge itself of northern Croatia where transport by train and the railway really make sense because of its close proximity to Zagreb. All else is questionable. I hope that you will get enough money from the European funds to reconstruct the railway thus making travel from the centre of Koprivnica to Zagreb last 45 minutes”, President Milanović noted.
He said that he is pleased because with his work and his decision, on the persistent and annoying insisting of the city leadership of the time, he persuaded the government to reach a decision on the founding of University North, which has its headquarters in Koprivnica. “With the merger of two polytechnics, yours and the one in Varaždin, the youngest Croatian university appeared having great significance for this city and this region. Obviously, it cannot compete with Zagreb or Rijeka, but it has its niche and I see, hear and feel that things are going well. For each city to have its university is a major accomplishment. It is a public university that will last, it will assemble the most intelligent people from the region and outside of it. One piece of good news to which I have personally made a small contribution, fully aware of what I’m doing and that I’m doing a good thing”, the President noted.
He told the residents of Koprivnica to be active and to wait for the unfortunate circumstances caused by the coronavirus to pass. “I see that the number of infected people is slightly decreasing, but there will be a third wave, let’s not kid ourselves, then probably all of this will end. America will elect a new or reelect the current president, let’s wait and see. And today I feel very good about all of this because I live in Croatia, I am a Croatian citizen, a Croat, because when all this adds up, a normal country”, President Milanović concluded.
