President Milanović Takes Part in Round Table on Regional Inequality
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović took part in a round table on regional inequality organized by the Economic Council of the President of the Republic held today in the Office of the President of the Republic.
Presented at the round table were current research findings on regional distribution of real and financial assets of households in Croatia, long-term socioeconomic features of assisted areas and mountain areas in Croatia, the importance of quality management and spatial dimensions for the improvement of economic effects of decentralization as well as corrections to calculation of the Gini coefficient on the basis of available microdata from the Revenue Office.
In addition to members of the Economic Council of the President of the Republic and officials of the Office of the President also taking part in the round table were research associate of the Institute of Economics, Zagreb Ivica Rubil, PhD, Professor in the Department of Economic Theory of the Faculty of Economics and Business of Zagreb Marko Ledić, PhD, and senior adviser in the Financial Stability Directorate Marina Kunovac.
President Milanović underlined the problem of inequality as an important topic that should be addressed by public policies, therefore the Economic Council of the President of the Republic will organize a series of round tables during 2022 aimed at analyzing all the causes and consequences of inequality in Croatia. It should be noted that the Economic Council of the President of the Republic drafted and presented to the public earlier this year a document entitled “Long-term Banija Development Vision”.
Participating at the round table were members of the Economic Council of the President of the Republic Prof. Đula Borozan, PhD, from the Faculty of Economics in Osijek, Prof. Boris Cota, PhD, of the Faculty of Economics and Business in Zagreb, Prof. Saša Drezgić, PhD, of the Faculty of Economics in Rijeka, Assoc. Prof. Tomislav Hernaus, PhD, of Faculty of Economics and Business in Zagreb, Igor Matutinović, PhD, of the Zagreb School of Economics and Management, Assoc. Prof. Vinko Muštra, PhD, of the Faculty of Economics in Split, and Marina Tkalec, PhD, of the Institute of Economics, Zagreb.
Alongside President Milanović were the Special Adviser to the President of the Republic for the Economy and President of the Economic Council of the President of the Republic Velibor Mačkić, PhD, Adviser to the President of the Republic for Human Rights and Civil Society Melita Mulić, and Assistant Adviser for the Economy Martina Ciglević, MSc.
