President Milanović Takes Part in Volunteer Drive to Reforest Fire Sites in Dalmatia
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović took part in the volunteer drive “Boranka” to reforest sites in Dalmatia destroyed by fire in the Split neighbourhood of Gornje Sitno. The “Boranka” drive is the biggest volunteer drive to reforest land destroyed by fire in all of Europe, being held for the third consecutive year. The reforestation of the slopes of the Mosor mountain is this year’s fourth drive.
“I’ve heard about this drive, it pleases me a lot, it is valuable, necessary and brilliant. As a young man I used to tend the gardens of wealthy residents of Zagreb, it’s a good thing to go back to one’s roots. One hundred years ago this area wasn’t forested, then the forests appeared, burned down and we will reforest the area again”, President Milanović said, lending support to the biggest volunteer drive to reforest the fire sites of Dalmatia, organized by Scouts Croatia in conjunction with the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service and Hrvatske šume forest management company.
The principal coordinator of the “Boranka” drive and business manager of Scouts Croatia Dan Špicer thanked President Milanović for joining the “Boranka” drive: “We’re always pleased to see how many volunteers and organizations participate, the support of the President and the Government. “Boranka” unites all of Croatia and every assistance and support is welcome in order for the forests to return to where they were”, Špicer noted.
