The President of the Republic of Croatia Zoran Milanović will participate next week in the session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, which will begin on Monday with the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the UN. The opening of the general debate of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly is on Tuesday, and President Milanović’s address to the General Assembly is scheduled for Wednesday.

President Milanović will also participate in the High-level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, which will be held at the United Nations on Monday. On 12 September, the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution. 142 UN member states, including Croatia, voted in favour of the declaration. The conference is the result of efforts by a group of states, led by France and Saudi Arabia, to stabilize the situation in the Middle East by reviving a political process aimed at a two-state solution – Israel and Palestine.

In addition to participating in the UN General Assembly and accompanying events in New York, during his working visit to the United States, President Milanović will visit the Minnesota National Guard military base in Minneapolis on Friday and Saturday. In addition to meetings with the Governor of Minnesota and the Commander of the Minnesota National Guard, a tour of the military base is also planned, where the President of the Republic and Commander in Chief of the Croatian Armed Forces will be shown, among other things, weapons systems and facilities for the maintenance of Black Hawk helicopters as well as Bradley and Abrams armoured vehicles.

The USA is Croatia’s largest partner in the field of defense, with military cooperation existing in almost all areas: from the education of Croatian Armed Forces members in the USA, training and military exercises, to the provision of military equipment and cooperation within the framework of military missions and operations. Bilateral cooperation between the Croatian and American militaries takes place mainly through the US European Command, through which the special partnership of the Croatian Armed Forces with the Minnesota National Guard is coordinated.

President Milanović will also use his stay in the USA to meet with members of the Croatian community living in New York and Minnesota. Immediately upon arriving in New York, on Sunday, President Milanović will visit the Parish Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius and Saint Raphael and the Croatian Center in New York, and a meeting with Croatians living in Minnesota is planned for Friday at the Croatian Hall.
