The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović today visited the Sacral Museum of the Greek Catholic Seminary in Zagreb and the Greek Catholic Co-cathedral of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Ćirilometodska Street.

Under the expert guidance of museum curator Dražen Zetić, President Milanović toured the exhibition, viewing gospel books, icons, antimensions (altar cloths), liturgical vestments, Byzantine coins, other sacred objects, and numerous valuable items that have been preserved and cared for by Greek Catholic clergy and seminarians for more than three centuries. The exhibition also features the Virgin Mary of Žumberak, a sacred icon brought by the Uskoks approximately 530 years ago, when they began to settle permanently in the Žumberak Mountains.

The Sacral Museum of the Greek Catholic Seminary is a registered institution, and its collection of icons has been protected as a cultural asset of the Republic of Croatia since 2008. The museum was solemnly blessed and opened in 2021 by Bishop of Križevci Msgr. Milan Stipić, in the presence of then Apostolic Nuncio to Croatia Giorgio Lingua, on the occasion of the 340th anniversary of the Greek Catholic Seminary in Zagreb, and under the leadership of then rector and parish priest Fr. Danijel Vranešić.

Following the visit to the museum, President Milanović toured the Greek Catholic Co-cathedral of Saints Cyril and Methodius, which this year marks the 345th anniversary of its founding, and met with Bishop of Križevci Msgr. Milan Stipić. The meeting was also attended by the Chancellor of the Križevci Eparchy Fr. Livije Marijan and the Rector of the Greek Catholic Seminary of the Križevci Eparchy Fr. Nenad Krajačić. President Milanović was accompanied by Jadranka Žarković, the President’s Adviser for Education, Neven Pelicarić, the President’s Adviser for Foreign and European Policy, and Zdravko Zima, the President’s Special Adviser for Culture.
