President of the Republic at 23rd Ladja Marathon on the Neretva River
The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović attended the 23rd Ladja Marathon on the Neretva River, an amateur sports race of traditional boats [ladja] from the Neretva River valley.
The marathon is being held under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Croatia, with the goal of preserving the autochthonous ladja.
The event kicked off in the port of Metković, where President Milanović signalled to the musket-bearing Dubrovnik Guard of Honour, the Dubrovački Trombunjeri, to mark the start of the race, which he observed from the deck of the command ship “Peregrine Dalmatia” as it sailed down the Neretva River to the finishing line in the port of Ploče.
In a tense finish, the crews from the ladja societies ofStablina and Zagreb came in first at this year’s Ladja Marathon and President Milanović presented them with the Great Shield of Prince Domagoj.
