President of the Republic Lays Wreath at Mirogoj Cemetery’s Central Cross to Mark All Saints’ Day
On the occasion of All Saints’ Day, the President of the Republic Zoran Milanović laid a wreath and lit a candle at the Central Cross in the Alley of Fallen Croatian Defenders at Mirogoj Cemetery.
After laying a wreath, President Milanović commented on the absence of the Croatian Prime Minister and the Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, who did not accept his invitation to lay a joint wreath.
“It didn’t have to turn out like this. We waited until the last moment, aware of how it had been done in previous years. It’s been done like that for the last five years, now all of a sudden it’s not because someone obviously wanted to avoid it now. It’s a pity. The invitation was my initiative, with the expectation that one of them will respond. I didn’t get a response, that’s no way of doing business seriously. It’s a pity,” said President Milanović.
On Thursday, the President of the Republic invited Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and Speaker of the Croatian Parliament Gordan Jandroković to jointly lay a wreath, which is customary on public holidays, since no proposal for a joint wreath-laying from the Government of the Republic of Croatia or the Croatian Parliament had arrived by then.
