President of the Republic Receives Delegation of “Udruga Lađara Neretve”

The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received a delegation of the “Udruga lađara Neretve” [Association of Neretva River Boatmen]. The delegation included president Luka Oršulić, vice president Dalibor Obradović and Association members Božo Zadro and Ante Šprlje.

On behalf of the “Udruga lađara Neretve”, the delegation asked the President of the Republic to accept patronage of the “Maraton lađa”, an amateur sporting boat race along the Neretva River traditionally held in August, which President Milanović accepted. During the meeting with the President of the Republic, the role of the “Udruga lađara Neretve” Association in promoting culture and customs was discussed as well as the importance of the “Maraton lađa” for enhancing tourism in the Neretva valley. The first lađe [boats] race took place in 1998. The “Maraton lađa” starts at Metković, continues down the Neretva River, passes by Opuzen to reach its final destination of Ploče.
