The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received Ombudswoman Lora Vidović with whom he discussed the current situation faced by the citizens of the Republic of Croatia due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The discussion focused on measures taken by the Government of the Republic of Croatia and the Civil Protection Directorate whose goal is to prevent the spread of the infection. Furthermore, they discussed the situation in long-term care facilities whose elderly residents are ever more exposed to the COVID-19 virus infection.

The President of the Republic reiterated his position to the Ombudswoman by saying that it is important to ensure that all the measures that are being taken are based on law, particularly since certain measures limit the rights and freedoms of the citizens of the Republic of Croatia. With regard to the situation in long-term care facilities, the President cautioned that additional measures should be taken in these institutions for protection against the COVID-19 virus infection since these facilities house groups of people who are at a higher risk.
