The proposed Ambassador of the State of Israel has not received, nor will he receive, the consent of the President of the Republic, due to the policies pursued by the current Israeli authorities
In keeping with established diplomatic practice, the Office of the President of the Republic of Croatia has so far refrained from publicly commenting on any foreign government’s proposal for the appointment of an ambassador to the Republic of Croatia. The State of Israel deviated from this unwritten rule by publicly announcing the name of its proposed ambassador, even though he had not received the consent of the President of the Republic of Croatia.
In light of this action by the Israeli side, the Office of the President of the Republic confirms that the proposed Ambassador of the State of Israel has not received, nor will he receive, the consent of the President of the Republic Zoran Milanović due to the policies pursued by the current Israeli authorities. The granting or withholding of consent for proposed ambassadors is a sovereign right of the Republic of Croatia and falls within the authority of the President of the Republic. Any public or political pressure, in this case from the Israeli side, will not alter the President of the Republic’s decision.
