The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović attended the opening of the 15th Job Fair where he told the students in attendance who are searching for a job to continue building their careers, to be ambitious and eager to succeed.

The Job Fair is organized by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (FER) of the University of Zagreb, the FER Career Centre, the FER Student Union and the FER Electrical Engineering Student Club (KSET). In his address, President Milanović referred to it a career centre. “I spend a lot of time with career oriented people, you are the only career oriented people I’m fond of. Build your careers since Croatia has no raw material and what’s left for us is to make a living from rent, tourism. Your faculty is one of three centres of excellence and intelligence that are vital for Croatia’s future”, the President remarked.

He underlined that Croatia as a nation and state, in words and in deeds, must stop relying on European funds. “We have to make optimum use of European funds. Unfortunately, we do not fare well in that area. As a nation we are losing the edge of ambition because if we come to terms with life only from rent and from parasitism on European funds, which very often serve to keep you in that state – it won’t be good”, President Milanović stated.

“The moment Croatia frees itself from the yoke of European funds will the moment Croatia becomes a prosperous country. You and others lead the way to this prosperity, there aren’t many of you. Dear career oriented people, be ambitious, eager to succeed and I’m not afraid for you. I’d be happy if this was in Croatia because Croatia without such knowledge doesn’t have many assets. There aren’t many assets that can bring us together, make us independent to earn enough so as not to need these European funds, or nobody’s help, but rather that we and you give to others”, President Milanović stated in concluding his address.

After the opening, President Milanović accompanied by the Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing Gordan Gledec toured the stands of many successful Croatian and foreign companies exhibiting their projects, technologies and know-how to interested students at the Job Fair. This year’s Job Fair hosted 135 companies. On 11 and 12 May, employers will have the opportunity to present current and future job offers and internships in their own companies in talks with students of FER and related technical faculties.

Alongside President Milanović was the Adviser for Education Jadranka Žarković and the Special Adviser for Energy and Climate Julije Domac.
