The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović met with a delegation from the Croatian Veterinary Chamber, which included President Ivan Zemljak, Co-president Mirela Juras and Secretary Anđelko Gašpar.

The members of the delegation explained to President Milanović the tasks of the Croatian Veterinary Chamber, an independent association of doctors of veterinary medicine and technicians on the territory of the Republic of Croatia, which regulates the profession of veterinarian, protects the rights and interests of veterinarians in terms of rank and profession. Their Chamber, which numbers 2,350 active members, advances the activities of veterinarians and looks after their image.

At the meeting, they acquainted President Milanović with the state of affairs in the veterinary profession, underlining the lack of availability of veterinary services in all areas in the Republic of Croatia, and the problem of carrying out veterinary services in the large animal category. In Croatia there are vast areas not covered by veterinary services mostly due to a significant reduction in livestock, a reduction in the public authority’s scope in veterinary medicine, and their funding. They pointed out that the greatest current problem is coverage on the islands and in areas near Dubrovnik, Pelješac, Metković and Vrgorac.

The representatives of the Croatian Veterinarian Chamber thanked President Milanović for accepting patronage over the scientific-professional symposium “Veterinarski dani 2021” (Veterinary Medicine Days), which was held from 26 to 29 September 2021 in Vodice. Alongside President Milanović was the Special Adviser to the President for the Economy Velibor Mačkić.
