President Milanović Meets with Croatian Boxing Federation Marking 100 Years of Activity

The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received today in the Office of the President a delegation of the Croatian Boxing Federation on the occasion of their 100 years of activity and organized boxing in Croatia, and the recently held European Elite Men and Women U22 Championships in Poreč where Croatian boxers achieved outstanding results.

The Croatian Boxing Federation hosted the European Elite Men and Women U22 Championships which were held in Poreč from 11 to 24 March 2022. Near 600 contestants from a record 39 countries took part in the championships. The Croatian Boxing Federation as host was acclaimed by all the participants and leaders of the International Boxing Association (IBA) and of the European Boxing Corporation (EUBC) for a very well organized competition. Croatia participated with a total of nine best youth male boxers and three female boxers winning three medals: Gabrijel Veočić gold, Nikolina Ćaćić silver and Noa Ježek bronze.

The Croatian Boxing Federation is an institution with one of the richest traditions of organized boxing in Croatia. Boxing is one of the most successful Croatian sports that boasts an impressive number of medals from European and world championships as well as Olympic Games. The leaders of the Croatian Boxing Federation indicated that there are growing numbers of boxers both male and female in Croatia. Today, there are 82 boxing clubs in Croatia, including 18 just in Zagreb.

Attending the meeting with President Milanović were the president of the Croatian Boxing Federation Bono Bošnjak, the vice-president of the Croatian Boxing Federation Mladen Mikolčević, the secretary-general of the Croatian Boxing Federation Marko Marović, the public relations officer of the Croatian Boxing Federation Mario Zorko, the assistant in the Croatian Boxing Federation Nikolina Jurić, coaches Pero Veočić, Franjo Kristić and Nikola Švalj as well as medal winners at the Championships in Poreč Nikolina Ćaćić, Gabrijel Veočić and Noa Ježek.

Alongside President Milanović at the meeting were the Special Adviser for Homeland War Veterans Marijan Mareković and the Commissioner of the President for Sports Željko Jovanović.
