The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received today in his Office Mr. Predrag Matić, Member of the European Parliament and “Future of Europe: European Year of Youth” project holder, and secondary pupils from Croatia who are participating in the project.

The European Commission has declared 2022 the European Year of Youth and Member of the European Parliament Mr. Predrag Matić is the holder of the “Future of Europe: European Year of Youth” in his role as a member of the Committee for Culture and Education. The project, which is being implemented in 2022 with secondary pupils across Croatia, also has an international dimension through cooperation with Ms. Petra Kammerevert, Member of the European Parliament (SPD), who included five German schools in the project. Thereby, 4,300 pupils became indirectly involved in the project, its participants said.

Speaking about the project’s objectives, Member of the European Parliament Mr. Matić said that their intention was to give young people a voice and space to present their vision of key youth policies and to include them in the decision-making process, both in Croatia and at the EU level. The project was carried out in cooperation with schools and everything was combined into a brochure that represents, as Mr. Matić put it, a map of the fundamental problems, risks, potentials and solutions in the area of youth policies. The project participants presented the brochure to President Milanović and it will also be presented to all other public policy actors in Croatia and the EU, the project participants said at the meeting.

Ten secondary schools from across Croatia participated in the project: School of Economics and Office Technology Slavonski Brod, Čakovec Gymnasium, Pula Gymnasium, Velika Gorica Gymnasium, Vukovar Gymnasium, Konjščina Secondary School, Krk Secondary School, Petrinja Secondary School, Vela Luka Secondary School, the School of Design, Graphics and Sustainable Construction Split.

The Head of the Cabinet of the President of the Republic Bartol Šimunić and Adviser to the President of the Republic for Human Rights and Civil Society Melita Mulić were alongside President Milanović.
