President Milanović meets with Slovenian Minister Fajon: We expect Slovenia’s support for Schengen

The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received today the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia Tanja Fajon, who is on official visit to the Republic of Croatia.

President Milanović and Foreign Minister Fajon discussed bilateral relations between Croatia and Slovenia, two neighbourly and, as they agreed, friendly countries. At the meeting there was also talk about possibilities for further improving cooperation between the two states in various areas, as well as Croatia’s membership in the euro area and the Schengen Area, for which President Milanović expects Slovenian support.

A topic of the meeting was also the situation in Southeast Europe, notably in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In terms of the upcoming elections in that country, President Milanović reiterated his position to Foreign Minister Fajon that it was important and imperative to ensure the legitimate representation of all three constituent peoples in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Furthermore, President Milanović expressed satisfaction with Slovenia’s support in efforts to secure Bosnia and Herzegovina candidate status for the European Union, which he himself advocates. Furthermore, during the talks they also addressed the security crisis caused by the Russian aggression against Ukraine.

Attending the meeting with President Milanović in addition to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia was the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to the Republic of Croatia, Gašper Dovžan, the Head of the Minister’s Office Aleš Balut, the Adviser to the Minister for Public Relations Milica Kotur, the Acting Director-General of the Directorate for International Law and Protection of Interests Marko Rakovec , the Acting Director-General for EU Affairs Ksenja Škrilec and the Head of the Sector for Neighbouring States Matej Andolšek.

Alongside the President of the Republic was the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Croatia to the Republic of Slovenia Boris Grigić, the Head of the Cabinet of the President Bartol Šimunić, and the Adviser to the President for Defense and National Security Dragan Lozančić.
