President Milanović Receives Management Board of the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb, Celebrating 250 Years of Activities
The President of the Republic of Croatia Zoran Milanović received on Friday the delegation of the Management Board of the Faculty of Law at the University of Zagreb on the occasion of celebrating 250 Years of activities as one of the eldest and most important institutions of higher education in the Republic of Croatia.
The Management of the Faculty of Law, led by the Dean Romana Matanovac Vučković, acquainted the President of the Republic with the marking of their landmark anniversary, including the gala concert at the Croatian National Theatre in late October, as well as a formal session on 4 November, otherwise celebrated as Faculty Day.
In addition to the landmark anniversary and significance of the Faculty of Law for higher education in Croatia, the meeting also discussed the plans of the new Management Board, which recently took over the leadership of the faculty. As one of its most important goals, Dean Matanovac Vučković highlighted the permanent resolution of the Faculty’s premises.
The building where the Faculty operated was damaged in the earthquake and has still not been renovated, with an additional problem being that the building is not owned by the Faculty but by the University. Therefore, the Management Board hopes to resolve this issue through dialogue with the University. They also hope that the renovation, financed by the European Union Funds, will be accelerated.
Furthermore, the Management Board of the Faculty of Law sees the modernisation of the Faculty as an equally important goal in order to attract more excellent secondary school students, i.e. students of law. The Management Board’s stance is that the Faculty is currently not attractive enough to the best secondary school students for their future higher education studies, which is something the Board wishes to change. The Faculty of Law is ready for a transformation, Dean Matanovac Vučković believes.
Alongside Dean Romana Matanovac Vučković, the delegation of the Faculty of Law included: the Vice-Dean for Science, Innovation and Knowledge Transfer Aleksandra Maganić; Vice-Dean for Teaching, Mobility, Students and Study Programmes Dora Zgrabljić Rotar; Vice-Dean for International and Interinstitutional Cooperation and Projects Lucija Vejmelka; and Vice-Dean for Finances and Business Operations, Quality Assurance and Lifelong Learning Marko Jurić.
The President of the Republic was accompanied by the Adviser of the President for Education Jadranka Žarković and Adviser to the President for Foreign Affairs Neven Pelicarić.
