The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović visited today the Municipality of Konjščina on the occasion of the 15th fair in Konjščina’s Old Town. After the opening ceremony, President Milanović, accompanied by the host, the Head of the Municipality of Konjščina Anita Curiš Krok, toured the fortress in the Old Town and the exhibitors in the Old Town’s fair.

The medieval fair in Konjščina is a traditional event showcasing old trades and customs, and reviving the historical battles of knights. The goal of the fair is to preserve the memory of the great battle with the Turks that occurred in the Old Town on today’s day in 1545. The first fair took place in 2007 when the idea of commemorating that date was born, reviving the battle and the spirit of that time.

The fair is held once a year, and visitors can watch the dances of the “Udruga grofovija Konjski” (Association of the Earldom of Konjski), a presentation of the former village way of life ‘Kak se negda pri nami delale’ (How it once used to be), stage presentations of knightly associations, a school of fencing, archery and a demonstration of military equipment from the Middle Ages. At the fair, one could also see old trades including blacksmiths, “licitar” decorated cakes, pottery, manual crafting of wooden toys and wooden barrels – “pintarenje”. In addition to the medieval military camp, there is also a fencing tournament, a stage presentation of the battle for the Old Town, and archery workshops.

Alongside President Milanović was the Adviser to the President for Human Rights and Civil Society.
