President of the Republic Reaches Decision to Present Awards to 195 Volunteer Blood Donors

The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received a delegation of the Croatian Red Cross including president Prim. Josip Jelić, M.D., Executive President Robert Markt, and his deputy Marina Pinjagić Telak.

President Milanović has invited the representatives of the Croatian Red Cross on the occasion of Blood Donor Day in the Republic of Croatia, which is marked on 25th October. For this event President Milanović reached a Decision to present the Order of the Croatian Star with the effigy of Katarina Zrinska for the noble and humanitarian deed of donating blood more than 100 times for men, and more than 75 times for women including a total of 195 volunteer blood donors in 2019.

The founder of volunteer blood donations in the Republic of Croatia is the Croatian Red Cross, which besides promoting volunteer blood donations, also organizes and conducts blood donation campaigns and assembles blood donors. In 2019, a total of 195,535 blood donations were collected including those that the Croatian Red Cross collected amounting to 157,230 blood donations. The Republic of Croatia is one of the rare countries, which thanks to its blood donations, ensures availability of blood and blood components to all those in need of blood for treatment purposes.

The Croatian Red Cross representatives acquainted the President of the Republic with their other humanitarian activities, primarily provision of material and financial goods to the socially deprived aimed at meeting elementary existential needs, whereby they strive to improve the quality of life, health, housing needs, food and educational needs.
