The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović met with the delegation of an Initiative entitled “Croatian Scientists for Climate – Appeal for Systematic Climate Action”, which groups 555 Croatian scientists. The Initiative’s goal is to raise awareness of the climate change crisis and conduct activities to prevent further worsening of that process globally.

The delegation of scientists expressed their concern due to the increasingly evident consequences of climate change and the lack of systematic debate on that topic in Croatia. Having in mind scientific findings on climate change, its cause, consequences, forecasts and prospects, they called for ambitious measures to create preconditions for a systematic and comprehensive approach to the climate crisis.

President Milanović underscored the importance of science for the sustainable development of society and of a timely scientific response to changes that are occurring in the environment and the preparedness to face the challenges of the day and of the future.

“It’s time to turn to the highest standards in environment and nature protection. I am prepared to help you achieve your demands and I support them entirely. My vision is a Croatia as one of the EU leaders in clean energy and one of the first steps to achieve that vision is to raise awareness of Croatia’s vulnerability and key risks,” said President Milanović.

The delegation of the Initiative included: Dr. Nikola Biliškov, Senior Research Associate from the Ruđer Bošković Institute, Dr. Jelena Puđak, Research Associate from the Ivo Pilar Institute, Professor Branko Grisogono, PhD, from the Geophysics Department of the Faculty of Science of the University of Zagreb, Dr. Ankica Kovač, Assistant Professor from the Engineering and Shipbuilding Faculty and Dr. Jelena Godrijan, Research Associate from the Ruđer Bošković Institute. In addition to President Milanović at the meeting was his special adviser for energy and climate, Dr. Julije Domac.
