President of the Republic Receives the Secretary of State of the Holy See Cardinal Parolin

The President of the Republic Zoran Milanović received the Secretary of State of the Holy See His Eminence Cardinal Pietro Parolin who is on a visit to the Republic of Croatia. Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Holy See, is visiting Zagreb at the invitation of the Croatian Bishops’ Conference on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the recognition and the establishment of diplomatic ties between the Republic of Croatia and the Holy See, and the 25th anniversary of the ratification of three Treaties between the Holy See and the Republic of Croatia.

In the Office of the President, President Milanović and the Secretary of State of the Holy See Cardinal Parolin discussed relations between the two states, the Republic of Croatia and the Holy See, that have a history of relations dating 1,300 years, the Russian aggression against Ukraine and the situation in South East Europe with a focus on Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The delegation of Secretary of State Parolin comprised the Apostolic Nuncio to the Republic of Croatia H. E. Archbishop Giorgio Lingua, First Secretary in the Apostolic Nunciature to Croatia Alfred Rayan D’Souza, and the First Counsellor in the Secretariat of State of the Holy See Msgr. Janusz Stanislaw Blachowiak.

President Milanović was joined at the meeting by the Chargé d’affaires a.i.  in the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia to the Holy See Tea Zupičić, the Adviser to the President for Foreign and European Policy Neven Pelicarić, and the Adviser to the President for Defense and National Security Dragan Lozančić.
